Internship with the Center for AI and Digital Policy

The Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP) is a non-profit, independent research, education, and advocacy organization based in Washington D.C. and Brussels. Our global network of AI, law, and policy experts advise national governments and international organizations on regulation of AI and emerging technologies. Our aim is to ensure a world where technology promotes broad social inclusion based on fundamental rights, democratic institutions, and the rule of law.

The Opportunity:
Internship with the Center for AI and Digital Policy for students in law and/or STEM to work on cutting-edge AI policy issues. 

Learning Objectives: 
Learn about established AI governance frameworks, emerging literature and proposals in AI governance, including but not limited to the proposals in the U.S., the EU AI Act, and domain-specific proposals.

  • The intern will hone policy research, analysis, writing, and communication in real-life policy environments.
  • The intern will gain an appreciation for the government, public service, and research ecosystem in Washington, DC.

Expected Responsibilities: 

  • Conducting policy research on artificial intelligence (AI) and related socio-technical systems
  • Draft letters, memos, analysis on laws relevant to AI for Congress, federal agencies, state lawmakers
  • Monitor, cover and report on congressional/agency  hearings at the federal and state level on artificial intelligence
  • Work on commentaries, and other advocacy pieces on AI policy/regulation
  • Engaging in events, discussions, coalitions on AI policy


Required Skills: 

  • Excellent research, writing, and communications skills
  • Strong interest in AI policy, and a commitment to human-centered, accountable, transparent, inclusive AI systems.
  • Background in law/law degree, and/or policy degree preferred 

Note:  We are able to work with students to support funding applications, work-study requirements, and academic credit requirements to do this internship with us. There is flexibility to do this fully remote, in-person at our DC office, or a combination of both.
