Advanced Manufacturing Outreach Coordinator

Research Title: Advanced Manufacturing Outreach Coordinator (Bachelors) PREP0003603

NIST’s Office of Advanced Manufacturing (OAM) is seeking a PREP associate to assist with advanced manufacturing outreach and education and workforce development efforts. Among other things, OAM is responsible for coordinating the Manufacturing USA program. Manufacturing USA, established by the Departments of Commerce (NIST), Energy, and Defense and other government agencies working with the private sector, enhances the impact of 18 manufacturing innovation institutes by helping to share best practices, amplify a shared vision of manufacturing excellence, identify and address gaps in the U.S. manufacturing technology base, identify common interests and activities that can help train the next-generation of skilled workers, transition newly developed manufacturing technologies and processes to the U.S. industrial base, and leverage expertise across multiple disciplines and contributing agency programs. 

 

OAM's Partnerships and Outreach Division develops and maintains strategic relationships with interagency and external partners and customers via an effective and efficient outreach and communications strategy focused on advanced manufacturing federal and public-private partnership efforts. The Division also develops and implements programs to prepare the workforce of the future for jobs in technologies developed by Manufacturing USA institutes.

 

Research Title:

Advanced Manufacturing Outreach Coordinator 

 

The work will entail: 

The associate will support key projects and programs across the Partnerships and Outreach Division’s portfolio of products and services for the Manufacturing USA network and NIST Office of Advanced Manufacturing. 

 

To be successful, the associate will need to become articulate on how OAM’s work fits into NIST’s mission and the larger advanced manufacturing ecosystem. The associate will learn the unique role Manufacturing USA plays in U.S. manufacturing competitiveness. Finally, the associate will engage and network with strategic partners through a variety of means, including interagency meetings, workshops, conferences, and scientific organizations (e.g., Manufacturing USA Interagency Working Team or IWT, American Society of Mechanical Engineers or ASME, American Association for the Advancement of Science or AAAS, Subcommittee on Advanced Manufacturing or NSTC SAM).

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Research 18 Manufacturing USA institute websites, newsletters, and other data sources
  • Compile and analyze information on a variety of advanced manufacturing topic areas, including but not limited to emerging technologies, industry trends, workforce development, partnerships, and best practices
  • Draft engaging and informative content for multiple platforms, including websites, social media channels, newsletters, reports, or slide presentations
  • Organize and maintain documentation on the OAM Internal SharePoint site, ensuring easy access and management of the Division’s information 
  • Provide operational support across various key Division communications, outreach, and workforce programs and projects aimed at enhancing engagement in advanced manufacturing 
  • Distribute public-facing email communications that follow SOP and branding guidelines by drafting and scheduling email, then tracking them against engagement metrics. Work with project leads to compile progress and final reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include special projects, administrative tasks, and additional support to team members as needed to ensure the Division’s continued success 
  • This is a full time position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a STEM-related field
  • Familiarity with science communications and advanced manufacturing 
  • Experience with research and analysis
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
