Strategic Initiatives Intern (Fall '25)

Fall is Compass Pro Bono's active program season. With our small (18-person) staff, we routinely have more internal strategy projects than we have staff time. This internship is an exceptional opportunity for a student to (1) get an inside, hands-on experience in how a high-performing nonprofit evolves and operates (the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly); and (2) contribute research and outreach that paves the way for our next phase of organizational growth and programmatic expansion.

Scope of the role:

While the specific initiatives you’ll tackle will not be set until shortly before your arrival—as we want to ensure you’re able to both leverage your existing skill sets and meaningfully contribute to Compass Pro Bono's then-most pressing strategic needs—possible topics include:

  • Conducting data management/analysis and program participant outreach to enable the delivery of specific Compass Pro Bono programs
  • Developing outreach strategies and target lists to enable the expansion of specific Compass Pro Bono programs
  • Developing prospective new corporate and/or foundation partner target lists and initiating an outreach strategy
  • Supporting the development of national and local brand-building strategies that help Compass Pro Bono expand our thought leadership and visibility across sectors
  • Creating case studies of Compass Pro Bono's impact in our communities, for use as both promotional collateral and guidance for future program participants (volunteers and nonprofits)
  • Updating grants and reporting language to capture our newly revised mission statement and evolving impact metrics

What we expect of interns:

  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to draft a variety of high-quality written materials in English, such as research summaries, case studies, and syntheses of multiple qualitative and quantitative information sets
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely in English during team meetings
  • Experience in or openness to learning and using new, technology platforms and tools, including Salesforce, Google Suite, and Slack
  • A growth mindset and ownership mentality
  • Excellent organization skills and an obsessive attention to detail
  • Energy and enthusiasm to manage complex projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic hybrid work environment

Please email jobs@compassprobono.org by 12pm ET on August 29, 2025 with the following materials:

  • a resume
  • a cover letter

the names and contact information of two academic or professional references, as well as a description of the nature of your relationship with them (e.g., “first-year economics professor”)

IMPORTANT: This opportunity is eligible for funding from eligible Universities. The Compass Pro Bono team will work with you and your school to make sure you're compensated for your time.
