Data Analysis Intern – (Fall '25)

Are you enthusiastic about data management and analysis? Do you have an obsessive attention to detail? Are you a technophile who gets a thrill out of figuring out how to robustly use different tech platforms? Are you eager to deploy your data skills to drive meaningful social change? If you're shouting “YES!”, this is the position for you!

Your mission: help fuel the data “engine” that allows multiple Compass Pro Bono programs to thrive and empowers front-line staff to focus on strategy and stakeholder relationships.

This internship is an exceptional opportunity for a student to (1) get an inside, hands-on experience in how a high-performing nonprofit evolves and operates (the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly); and (2) contribute to internal data management and analysis to pave the way for our next phase of organizational growth and programmatic expansion.

Scope of the role:

While the specific initiatives you’ll tackle will not be set until shortly before your arrival—as we want to ensure you’re able to both leverage your existing skill sets and meaningfully contribute to Compass Pro Bono's then-most pressing strategic needs—possible topics include:

  • Organizing data from multiple Compass Pro Bono programs in Google Sheets and Salesforce
  • Maintaining real-time accuracy of Google Sheets to track program data using advanced formulas, conditional formatting, and pivot tables
  • Setting up pivot tables that allow real-time sorting of volunteer and nonprofit data along various demographic and qualitative lines
  • Analyzing data and creating visual reports to elucidate year-to-year and long-term trends among nonprofit clients and volunteers
  • Identifying opportunities for data management and analysis improvements, and proposing solutions
  • Supporting implementation of Compass Pro Bono's new volunteer portal
  • Updating metrics and statistics used to track the impact of Compass Pro Bono programming

What we expect of interns:

  • Strong data management, spreadsheet, and data reporting/visualization skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in Excel and/or Google Sheets
  • Demonstrated obsessive attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information spread across multiple complex datasets
  • Proactive problem-solver with the drive to take initiative and the judgment to know when to ask for guidance
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely in English during team meetings
  • Experience in or openness to learning and using new, technology platforms and tools, including Salesforce, Google Suite, and Slack

Please email jobs@compassprobono.org by 12pm ET on August 29, 2025 with the following materials:

  • a resume
  • a cover letter

the names and contact information of two academic or professional references, as well as a description of the nature of your relationship with them (e.g., “first-year economics professor”)

IMPORTANT: This opportunity is eligible for funding from eligible Universities. The Compass Pro Bono team will work with you and your school to make sure you're compensated for your time.
