What you’ll do
Summer Consultants receive intensive training so they can meaningfully contribute to many aspects of a project. Throughout our 10-week Summer Consultant Program, you will:
- Analyze large quantities of data using programs such as Stata, R, Python, SQL, and Excel.
- Conduct industry research, review legal documents, and synthesize relevant information.
- Communicate results through data visualization, reports, and presentations.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues at all levels and backgrounds, from Consultants to PhD Economists and Partners.
- Develop technical skills (R, Stata, Excel) and soft skills through intensive training.
- Participate in a case study.
- Organize a firmwide event to raise money for a nonprofit of your choice.
- Develop valuable connections and career guidance through our speaker series with senior leadership, career path panel, practice-area lunch-and-learns, and more.
- Enjoy social events and experience the city by attending dinners and a variety of outings in DC, including a Nationals baseball game, pickleball, roller skating, and more.

What you’ll bring to the table
We seek individuals who are motivated by intellectually stimulating work, are driven and excited to learn, and exude strong teamwork and leadership skills. Strong candidates:
- Are pursuing an undergraduate degree (required). A technical background (e.g., economics, finance, computer science, engineering, etc.) is helpful but not required. All majors accepted.
- Will graduate between December 2026 and spring 2027.
- Have an aptitude for numbers and an interest in programming and analysis. Experience with Stata, R, or a similar programming language is helpful, but not required.
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a team-oriented environment.
- Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Demonstrate independence, tenacity, self-confidence, and creativity.
- Can legally work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future. Note: Candidates who will rely upon CPT or OPT for work authorization as Summer Consultants and will need future visa sponsorship by Bates White if offered a role as a Consultant are discouraged from applying for the Summer Consultant Program. Bates White does not provide work visa sponsorship for incoming Consultants.
