
2025-26 Legislative Intern - Maryland General Assembly
Position Overview
The Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE) invites applications for a part-time Legislative Intern to support its work during the 2026 Maryland General Assembly Session. The internship runs from December 2025 through April 2026, averaging 25–30 hours per week. The role is paid, largely remote, and offers flexible scheduling, though some in-person meetings and occasional travel to Annapolis will be required.
About MABE: Founded in 1957, the Maryland Association of Boards of Education is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to serving and supporting boards of education in Maryland. MABE is a leading advocate for public education in the state and a champion for excellence in public education. All 24 Maryland boards of education are members of MABE.
Role Responsibilities
- Track legislation and maintain bill records, including producing weekly bill tracking reports for distribution.
- Conduct research on legislative, policy, fiscal, and legal issues to inform MABE’s testimony, communications, and advocacy efforts.
- Draft content for newsletters, the MABE website, and social media to ensure timely communication of legislative activity.
- Assist with preparation of oral and written testimony for use before the Maryland General Assembly and other state entities.
- Provide administrative and database support for MABE’s legislative team.
- Help organize advocacy activities, including scheduling and attending meetings with legislators, committees, the State Board of Education, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to special projects and support the broader legislative team as needed.
- Perform other tasks related to legislative and policy advocacy as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or current upper-level undergraduate student.
- Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly organized, with strong time management and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Prior experience with the Maryland General Assembly, in education policy, or legislative work is a plus, but not required.
- Demonstrated interest in education policy, public policy, or government affairs.
