Urban Sustainability Green Fellow
The Urban Sustainability Administration (USA) Green Fellow will support an update to the District's sustainability plans, as well as programs and initiatives that contribute to meeting the goals of both plans. The Fellow will lead development of the Sustainable DC newsletter, social media, and website updates. The Fellow will support the final planning and execution of the District Sustainability Awards, an annual event to recognize leading entities in Sustainability, and Rooting DC, a daylong event to educate and support DC residents to grow gardens and healthy food. Based on the Fellow's interests and the workload needs of the team, they may also support sustainability program reporting, community engagement events, grants management, marketing and outreach campaigns, and/or stakeholder engagement sessions. The Fellow will be part of a dynamic team at the forefront of making DC the healthiest, greenest, most livable city for all residents.
Key Duties:
Support the core activities of the Sustainable DC initiative, to include:
- Drafting original content and compiling content from colleagues for a monthly newsletter and social media,
- Assessing progress on Sustainable DC implementation,
- Participating in College and University Sustainability Pledge Meetings,
- Planning and participating in any meetings with interagency sustainability contacts, and
- Participating in public-facing events to inform and engage community members about Sustainable DC.
Support the planning and execution of the District Sustainability Awards and Rooting DC, to include:
- Supporting outreach efforts for both events as needed,
- Compiling case studies of award winners and documenting the impact of Rooting DC, and
- Assisting with event logistics as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently in pursuit of master's degree in public policy administration, urban planning, energy, environment, sustainability, architecture, or any related fields
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
- Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Wordpress; knowledge of new social media techniques
- Adept at managing multiple projects at once and meeting deadlines
- Self-starter and able to work both independently and as part of a team
