Internship Description:

The Analyst Boot Camp is an intensive, two-week training program designed for rising college seniors and hosted in First Tryon’s Charlotte, NC and Annapolis, MD offices. This immersive experience replicates the dynamic environment of a full-time financial analyst role. Participants will gain practical exposure to public finance through a combination of comprehensive instruction, hands-on assignments, and direct exposure to deal-related projects and client meetings.

The program is intentionally designed to deliver meaningful experience within a condensed timeframe, allowing participants to also pursue a traditional 10-week summer internship elsewhere.

 

About First Tryon:

First Tryon Advisors is a leading municipal financial advisory practice offering independent financial advice to various entities, including colleges/universities, private K-12 schools, not-for-profits, hospitals, counties, cities, school districts, and utility systems.

We help clients develop long-term financial plans and execute financings for capital projects, such as new facilities, municipal infrastructure, dormitories, and athletic projects. Our mission is to provide peace of mind through expert advice, innovative capital planning strategies, and tailored financing solutions. First Tryon employs 30 professionals with primary offices in Charlotte, NC, and Annapolis, MD.

 

Internship Overview:

During this two-week program, interns will work alongside junior and senior public finance professionals and acquire necessary skills to excel in a career in finance. This program is designed for participants to spend one week in Charlotte and one week in Annapolis to explore different financing structures utilized by the variety of clients served by First Tryon. Program participants will be considered for a full-time analyst role starting in the summer of 2027 in the firm’s two-year analyst program. This internship offers:

  • General exposure to the knowledge and skills required to ensure future success working in financial advisory services
  • Industry specific training focused on key topics such as debt capacity, credit analysis, tax-exempt financing structures and modeling, interest rate derivatives, and long-term capital planning
  • Hands-on experience in preparing quantitative analysis, presentation materials, and supporting client and working group deliverables
  • Case studies on project financing for local government, higher education, charter schools, independent schools, and general not-for-profit clients
  • Direct mentorship by junior and senior advisors

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Actively participate in workshops and training
  • Assist financial advisors with client relationship management, follow-ups, administrative tasks, and business development initiatives
  • Conduct market research using Bloomberg Terminal and other financial tools to provide insights on economic trends and industry dynamics
  • Develop and refine cash flow analyses and transaction structures
  • Prepare and deliver presentation materials

 

Qualifications:

  • Rising seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree
  • Coursework or foundational knowledge of finance or accounting (preferred but not required)
  • Strong time management skills; well-organized, detail-oriented, and accurate
  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills

 

Requirements:

  • Submission of a cover letter, resume, and transcript
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 
  • Availability to work in person, 40 hours per week, for the full two-week program
  • A letter of recommendation may be requested during the interview process, but is not required for initial submission

 

Compensation:

This is a paid internship program. First Tryon Advisors will provide a competitive stipend for the two-week Analyst Boot Camp. In addition, the firm will cover travel expenses and housing accommodations for the duration of the program. Additional details regarding compensation and logistics will be provided to selected candidates prior to the start of the program.
