Government Affairs Intern
Position Overview
The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) is a global trade organization headquartered in Arlington, Virginia representing the temperature-controlled supply chain worldwide. GCCA seeks a Government Affairs Intern to support its Government Affairs and Policy team while gaining exposure to global trade and policy issues that affect international supply chains.
The position is based in the International Headquarters and will work alongside specialist staff and external consultant team to ensure that colleagues and members have ‘first and best’ insight into the regulatory and political developments impacting logistics businesses around the world.
Key Responsibilities
Global Government Affairs & Policy Monitoring
- Global Media Monitoring
- Scrape, organize, and summarize policy and market news, press releases, policy announcements, and regulatory updates
- Maintain clear and organized trackers and briefing materials for internal teams and member use
- Provide daily/weekly news clips summaries to senior team and staff on key cold chain happenings and policy issues
Global Policy & Regulatory Development Tracking
- Maintain a comprehensive tracker and produce regular member facing updates (format to be determined)
UNITED STATES (work in coordination with GCCA US advisers)
- Monitor U.S federal and state legislative, regulatory, and administrative developments impacting the cold chain and supply chain sectors
- track activity from Congress, federal agencies, and relevant regulatory bodies
- track regulatory issues and implementation timelines from USDA, EPA, FDA, and other federal agencies
OTHER JURISTICTIONS (work in conjunction with GCCA International advisers)
- Monitor major legislative developments in key regulatory markets (US, Canada, Brazil, other)
- Monitor major trade policy developments affecting the cold chain
Research and Policy Briefing Preparation
- Draft weekly updates for global policy newsletter
- Support background research for advocacy initiatives, member communications, and committee work ,with particular focus on comparative research on U.S. and international policy approaches
- Contribute to internal briefings that incorporate both domestic and global policy perspectives. Draft concise policy summaries and internal briefing notes
- Assist in identifying policy trends, risks, and opportunities affecting the global cold chain
Professional Development & Team Support
- Work closely with experienced government affairs and communications professionals and receive ongoing mentorship
- Participate in team meetings, meetings with external consultants and policy discussions
- Support project-based and administrative tasks related to government affairs programs
- Work collaboratively with Communications team for policy communications and member notifications
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in political science, public policy, international relations, economics, supply chain, communications, or a related field
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated interest in U.S. government, public policy, or global trade
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and professionalism
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior internship, coursework, or experience related to government affairs or policy
- Familiarity with US Congress, federal agencies, or regulatory processes
- Interest in global trade, logistics, cold chain, food systems, or infrastructure policy
