UX Research Intern

 

Department Summary:

The User Experience Team supports the mission of ACS Publications by prioritizing user-centered design, promoting accessibility, and delivering data-driven insights. We collaborate closely with product teams throughout every stage of the product lifecycle to create products that are accessible, consistent, and intuitive.

 

Position Summary:                   

We are seeking a UX Research Intern with strong qualitative and quantitative research skills to support mixed-method studies across our digital publishing products. The intern will help plan and run research activities, manage logistics and documentation, and communicate insights clearly to guide UX and product decisions. Strong organizational skills and an interest in user experience and chemistry-focused publishing are preferred.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for a UX Research Intern to support our team with ongoing and upcoming research initiatives. The role will help us plan, execute, and synthesize mixed-method studies, including both quantitative and qualitative work. Responsibilities - Assist in designing and running user research activities such as interviews, surveys, usability tests, and concept evaluations

  • Support data collection, analysis and synthesis via qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Summarizing insights and present findings in a way that supports design decisions and products
  • Work closely with UX designers, Researcher and other stakeholders to keep research aligned with project goals Ideal Skillset
  • Familiarity with qualitative methods like user interviews, usability testing and quantitative methods like Surveys, Card Sorting, Tree Testing etc.
  • Strong organizational habits for handling multiple research tasks and documentation
  • Clear communication skills, comfortable sharing and presenting insights with and alongside researchers and non-researchers
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and openness to feedback
  • Familiarity with the Publication workspace is a plus.

 

Education Requirements:
The Ideal candidate will be rising senior or recent graduate pursing a Psychology, Human-computer interaction, Statistics or applied statistics, Design, Anthropology or similar.

 

Required Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a major in Psychology, Human-computer interaction, Statistics or applied statistics, Design, Anthropology or similar.

 

Pay Transparency: This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. The following are the intended hourly rates for this part time/nonexempt role: Rising Junior-$24.00; Rising Senior-$25.00; Current Grad/PhD Student- $29.00.

 

Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of ACS. ACS reserves the right to amend or modify its employment benefits and compensation structure at any time.

 

*This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, two days per week. Schedule flexibility may be required for this role to support in-office activities. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location of their choice.
