Credit Team Graduate-School Intern

Reporting to the Director-Credit Analytics, the Credit Team Graduate-School Intern will have the opportunity to learn hands-on data skills and build on those to meaningfully contribute to credit analytics initiatives. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching and testing credit model enhancements, such as probability of default or loss given default models.
  • Building reporting to monitor the statistical performance of existing credit risk models.

Suitable candidates must be able to balance competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The People You Will Work With

The position will work closely with the Director-Credit Analytics and will interact with leaders and teams within the enterprise, including the Chief Credit Officer, Senior Credit Risk Officers, Underwriting, Financial Planning & Analysis, Operations, and IT. 

Where and When You Will Work

Farmer Mac embraces a Presence with Purpose work environment, which allows for flexibility of work location while providing the opportunity for teams to come together in the office with purpose. Strong preference will be given to candidates in the Washington, D.C. area. Work outside of core hours may be required for planned and unplanned activities to complete time sensitive projects or to attend off-site meetings or events.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL and one of Python or R is required, and experience with Power BI is a plus.
  • Experience evaluating statistical or machine learning model performance is a plus.
  • Strong interest in commercial lending, mortgage finance, statistics, and data analysis
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to details are a must
  • Strong educational record of achievement with an equally strong desire to learn
  • Must be self-motivated and work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Successful candidates must share Farmer Mac values and demonstrate an ability to work collegially and collaboratively
     

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled graduate-level student pursuing a degree in STEM, Economics, Business, Finance, or similar disciplines
  • Minimum GPA of 3.4


Graduate students are paid $22/hour.
