Institutional Loan Servicing Intern

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Institutional Loan Servicing, the student will have the opportunity to learn about various Operations functions and take part in initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Loan boarding, review, and servicing processes for Corporate AgFinance and Rural Infrastructure portfolios
  • Operational requirements for participations, syndications, and commercial whole loans
  • Post-settlement activity processing and reporting to downstream functions

Suitable candidates must be able to balance competing priorities with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

The People You Will Work With

The position will work closely with the Senior Manager, Institutional Loan Servicing and ILS Analysts, as well as other members of the broader Operations team.

Where and When You Will Work

The position would be remote or potentially hybrid for students who are located near the Washington, D.C. headquarters or the Johnston, Iowa, office of Farmer Mac. Work may be performed during core business hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 p.m. Eastern for 32 hours during the summer break.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong interest in agricultural markets and commercial lending
  • Knowledge of or interest in lending practices
  • Solid MS Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Strong educational record of achievement with an equally strong desire to learn
  • Must be self-motivated and work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to details are a must
  • Successful candidates must share the Farmer Mac values and demonstrate an ability to work collegially and collaboratively

Education and Experience

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate (rising junior or senior in summer 2026) pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or other quantitative disciplines
  • Minimum GPA of 2.89

For Washington, D.C. and other higher-expense areas, hourly pay for an undergraduate would be $18/hourly pay for a graduate-level student would be $22. National rate would be $16/$20.
