The World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) seeks four Spring Semester 2026 Interns (juniors, seniors, or graduate students) to intern in at our headquarters office in Washington, DC. Internships begin September 2026 and conclude December 2026. If legally eligible to receive payment, interns will receive a $2500 stipend payable upon successful completion of the internship in December 2026. 

Review of applications begins May 29, 2026 and continues on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Due to the volume of applications we can only acknowledge those whom we select for an interview. 

Interns should tailor their application to one of our following five departments:  

Event Management, Global Education, Marketing & Communications, Member Services, or Executive Operations and Relations.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Planning and facilitation of annual flagship events such as Academic WorldQuest (AWQ), National Conference, Student Scholars, or Council Leadership Meetings; (all departments)
  • Researching content for signature events as well as Council roundtables and similar online meetings (all departments) 
  • Development assistance for branding strategies, website and social media updates, newsletter content, and print and electronic design work (marketing and communications)
  • Updating and maintenance of speaker database, Council contacts, Council directory, and WACA archives (executive operations)
  • Researching potential donors and national partners (member services, executive operations)
  • Collaborating on processing of event registrations, dues payments, and donations (member services)
  • Working in accordance with and supporting WACA’s mission, goals, values, & strategic direction (all departments)
  • Performing other duties including assistance with special projects as assigned (all departments)
     

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Verified enrollment in an accredited degree program in International Relations, Political Science, History, Foreign Languages, Business, Event Planning, Hospitality, Communications, Marketing, or related major.
  • Organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task and work well with others
  • Ability to communicate well with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to learn quickly; high problem-solving proficiency
  • Ability to take accountability for multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workload, and remain organized in a deadline sensitive environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Professionalism, discretion, and integrity, particularly with personal or confidential information

Preferred: 

  • Junior, senior, or graduate student status
  • Intercultural competency demonstrated by prior work experience, study, or travel abroad
  • Prior volunteer experience in the nonprofit field
  • Research experience (qualitative or quantitative)
  • Proficiency in languages other than English
