Student Trainee (Financial Management) Intern
The Department of War (DoW) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Student Trainee (Financial Management) intern. This role is designed to provide direct mission support to the Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations & Low-Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC) by assisting senior leadership in the oversight of core financial operations. You will work at the intersection of data analysis and federal accounting, helping to ensure that resources are managed efficiently and transparently across DoW and WHS serviced organizations. This is an excellent opportunity for a budding financial professional to gain high-level exposure to defense budget execution and federal auditing processes.
What You Will Do: As a Financial Management intern, you will gain incredible hands-on experience and build a high-impact portfolio by:
- Assist the senior financial manager by applying various techniques, including financial studies, formal audits, and statistical analyses to evaluate organizational data.
- Maintain precise digital records and logs for the full lifecycle of funding, including authorizations, commitments, obligations, and transfers of funds by specific program or activity.
- Execute computer entry for fund adjustments to ensure balances accurately reflect currently available resources and mission needs.
- Support the monitoring and management of budget execution across DoW and WHS serviced organizations to ensure fiscal compliance and mission readiness.
Education Level: Undergraduate or higher
Desired Skills:
- Ability to interpret complex data sets and contribute to financial studies and audits.
- High proficiency in computer-based data entry and maintaining complex financial logs without errors.
- Ability to manage multiple fund adjustments and track various program activities simultaneously.
Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
