UNPAID - GIS Intern
Baltimore Green Justice Workers Cooperative (BGJWC) is seeking one undergrad or grad students for an unpaid, part-time GIS Mapping Internship.
Interns will assist BGJWC staff with various tasks related to spatial data management, analysis, and mapping including using GIS mapping software and training staff and/or community partners to use GIS mapping software. Duties include but are not limited to:
Data Collection and Input:
- Collecting spatial data from various sources, including field surveys, satellite images, and other databases.
- Inputting and updating GIS databases with accurate geographic information.
Data Analysis:
- Analyzing spatial data to identify patterns, relationships, and trends.
- Conducting geospatial analysis using tools like EJ Screen, ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar software.
Map Creation and Design:
- Creating detailed maps that visually represent geographic data for reports, presentations, and publications.
- Customizing map styles, layers, and symbology to effectively communicate spatial information.
Data Management:
- Organizing and maintaining GIS datasets, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date.
- Assisting in data quality control and assurance processes.
Technical Support:
- Assisting team members and other departments with GIS-related tasks and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Providing support in the use of GIS software and tools.
Fieldwork (if applicable):
- Participating in fieldwork to gather geospatial data, including using GPS devices and mobile GIS applications.
- Validating and verifying data collected in the field.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Documenting methodologies, processes, and workflows used in GIS projects.
- Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and results to stakeholders.
Collaboration:
- Working with other departments or teams to integrate GIS data into broader projects.
- Collaborating on interdisciplinary projects where GIS can provide spatial insights.
Learning and Development:
- Gaining hands-on experience with various GIS tools and technologies.
- Attending training sessions or workshops to improve GIS skills and knowledge.
