Data Science Intern

About the Role

EMI Advisors is seeking a motivated Data Science Intern currently pursuing a master's degree to support enterprise data analytics and artificial intelligence initiatives. This internship provides hands-on experience working alongside experienced data scientists and technical leaders to develop machine learning models, data visualizations, and analytical solutions that support government and commercial clients.

You will contribute to real-world projects while building practical experience in data science, predictive analytics, and visualization. This internship is designed for graduate students who enjoy solving complex problems, learning new technologies, and applying analytical thinking to meaningful client challenges.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Support the analysis of structured and unstructured data to identify meaningful insights and trends. 
  • Assist with developing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations for client deliverables. 
  • Contribute to machine learning and predictive analytics projects under the guidance of senior team members. 
  • Help clean, prepare, validate, and analyze datasets from multiple sources. 
  • Participate in research, testing, and evaluation of emerging AI and data science tools. 
  • Assist in documenting analytical methods, findings, and technical processes. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including software developers, analysts, and project managers. 
  • Present findings and recommendations to internal project teams. 
  • Participate in Agile project ceremonies and continuous improvement activities. 
  • Perform other technical and analytical tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Analytics, Economics, or a related field. 
  • Available to work approximately 10 hours per week during the internship. 
  • Experience with Python through coursework, research, or personal projects. 
  • Understanding of statistics, data analysis, and machine learning fundamentals. 
  • Experience creating data visualizations using Tableau, Power BI, Python, or similar tools. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with SQL. 
  • Coursework or research involving artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, or visualization. 
  • Experience using Git or other version control tools. 
  • Interest in health IT, government consulting, defense, or emerging technologies. 
  • Experience with Databricks or cloud platforms is a plus.
