Academy for Civic Education and Democracy

The Academy for Civic Education and Democracy (ACED) is an immersive eight-week summer program that prepares undergraduate students to become informed, confident civic leaders. Based in Washington, D.C., the program combines an accredited college course, a professional internship, experiential learning, and opportunities to engage with influential leaders from across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Students explore American history, civics, democracy, and presidential leadership both inside and beyond the classroom while gaining practical experience through internships in the nation’s capital. Weekly speakers, professional development opportunities, and visits to historic and civic institutions help students expand their knowledge, strengthen their skills, and build meaningful professional networks. Classes are held at the Ronald Reagan Institute and accredited by George Washington University. Through these academic and professional experiences, ACED empowers students to begin their leadership journeys with confidence, valuable connections, and tangible experience.

In order to participate, students must meet the minimum requirements outlined below:

- 18 years or older

- Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree

- Have at least 30 hours of college course credit complete when the program begins

- 3.0 GPA required
