Internship in Arts Administration and Event Management
Interested in a career in arts administration, events management, event marketing, or event planning? Apply for a 2025 internship with the DC Jazz Festival, located in the Southwest neighborhood at Arena Stage. (Metro Green Line: Waterfront station).
Our internship program provides hands-on experience in the areas of arts administration, marketing and communications, development, event logistics/coordination, project research, merchandising, festival activation, and more.
Period: Spring internships are available starting as early as February 17 through May 12, 2025, and Summer internships from June 2nd-Septmber 1, 2025—flexible period (a minimum of 10 weeks).
Stipend: Interns are eligible for a $500.00 travel stipend payable in $250.00 increments after completion of 5 weeks in the program.
School Credit: The internship will be based in the DC Jazz Festival office. If pursuing an internship for school credit or work study, the intern will be expected to provide all forms/school documentation to the Internship Coordinator to ensure that all school requirements are met.
Time Commitment: 20 hours each week. The internship requires a minimum of 14 hours per week in the office and an additional 6 hours working at evening/weekend events, in the community, and/or remotely as assigned. Interns will be required to adhere to a negotiated weekly schedule.
Successful applicants should possess at least one year of arts administration, marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, or arts education/policy-related study. Bachelor’s and master’s candidates are encouraged to apply. High school students who study entrepreneurship or media studies are also encouraged to apply. Effective communication and personal management skills are essential.
Duties vary according to project. Specific assignments could include, but are not limited to:
1. General Administrative support
2. Onsite event assistance
3. Marketing and communications support
4. Social media team
5. Street team promotion in neighborhoods citywide
6. Photography and videography support
7. Research projects as needed
8. Weekly team meetings
9. Merchandising support
10. Festival evaluation/survey support
Requirements:
• 12-week minimum at 20 hours per week
• Willing to work collaboratively as part of a project team
• Effective communication and research skills
• Working knowledge of social media platforms
• Ability to work independently on tasks and to ask for direction whenever needed • Responsible and punctual
