
Intern, Safety, Operations and Engineering
About the Role
American Gas Association (AGA) is looking for a technically competent intern to join its Safety, Operations, Engineering, and Security Services (SOES) team for the summer. The intern for this position should expect to learn about natural gas distribution piping systems including topics of pipeline and worker safety, security, renewable natural gas, and more. The intern will assist the O&E team by providing technical support for developing pipeline safety policies and operations issues for our member companies, conducting operations information sharing initiatives, publishing and participating in development of industry standards, reports and technical papers.
AGA professional staff provide mentoring and assistance with professional development skills. Successful participation will be a great addition to the intern’s resume.
What you will do:
- Assist staff executives by compiling data and case studies for use in various committee projects. These projects include whitepapers, webinars, infographics/one pagers, technical guides.
- Conduct an alignment analysis between an existing technical survey and industry safety elements.
- Develop process improvement solutions and enhance work product tracking for a large technical committee.
- Monitor updates to federal and state regulations impacting the natural gas industry
- Create and maintain a national database of renewable energy projects, including project descriptions.
- Map out industry standards (e.g., API, ANSI, NACE) with relevance to pipeline safety regulations and AGA technical committee work. Systemize ownership of, and notification to, AGA staff when industry standards are updated or incorporated by reference.
- Attend one in-field ride-along or site tour with a local distribution company
- Prepare meeting materials and assist with post-meeting reporting
- Other tasks as assigned.
What you will bring:
Applicants should be juniors or seniors in school, with an interest in the natural gas industry, excellent research and communication skills, and experience with Microsoft Office software including Access. Database experience is a plus.
How we operate:
This role is based in Washington, DC where AGA employees currently have the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely. The employee’s team determines one day each week, and the employee determines the others.
The Pay and Benefits:
For employees who live in the Washington, DC Metro area, the salary for this position is $20.00 per hour. Internships are not eligible for AGA healthcare benefits.
The American Gas Association requires all offered candidates to pass a background check and sign an arbitration agreement as conditions of employment.
