Office of Councilmember Evan Glass
The Montgomery County Council is the legislative branch of the county government. It has eleven members, all elected by Montgomery County, MD voters for four-year terms. In 2018, Councilmember Evan Glass was elected as an At-Large member of the Council and currently serves as the Chair of the Transportation and Environment Committee. He is the first openly LGBTQ+ individual on the Council. Councilmember Glass has passed the Montgomery County Pay Equity Act, the Housing Justice Act, the LGBTQ+ Bill of Rights, and the Oversight and Small Business Investment Act.
Internship Summary
The Office of Councilmember Evan Glass offers a Legislative Internship program designed to immerse participants in the different functions of a County Council office. Interns will assist staff with:
- Conducting limited legislative research
- Drafting correspondence responses
- Facilitating constituent casework
- Answering constituent phone calls
- Providing administrative assistance as needed
- Attending community events as needed
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will be a college or graduate student who is motivated, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and passionate about local government. Applicants should have experience in public policy, constituent outreach, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Montgomery County ties are preferred.
Hours and Expectations
Legislative interns will work in the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD 20850. We are looking for candidates who can work in person for 15-20 hours a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Limited weekday evenings and weekend availability for community events are a plus. A hybrid internship may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Please specify in your cover letter your weekly availability, expected start and end dates, and whether you are looking for a paid internship ($17.15/hr) or school credit. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis starting March 24, 2025 until internship positions are filled. The proposed start date is June 2025.
