Community Liaison (Summer 2025)
Office of Councilmember Evan Glass

The Montgomery County Council is the legislative branch of the county government. It has eleven members, all elected by Montgomery County, MD voters for four-year terms. In 2018, Councilmember Evan Glass was elected as an At-Large member of the Council and currently serves as the Chair of the Transportation and Environment Committee. He is the first openly LGBTQ+ individual on the Council. Councilmember Glass has passed the Montgomery County Pay Equity Act, the Housing Justice Act, the LGBTQ+ Bill of Rights, and the Oversight and Small Business Investment Act.

Internship Summary

The Office of Councilmember Evan Glass offers a Community Liaison program for students designed to immerse participants in building connections with the community at the local government level. This position is for May through July. Community Liaisons will assist staff with: 

  • Representing Councilmember Glass at community events throughout the County
  • Providing administrative support in the office
  • Providing constituent services
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a college student or recent graduate who is passionate about public service and interacting with residents. Applicants should be enthusiastic about interacting with residents, motivated, organized, have strong interpersonal skills, and be interested in learning about the functions of local government. Montgomery County ties and familiarity with local policy issues are preferred. 

Hours and Expectations

Selected Community Liaisons will work both in the community and the Council Office Building (100 Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD 20850). We are looking for candidates available to attend community events on the weekends, occasionally weekday evenings – in addition to time in the office and/or remote – totaling 10 hours per week. Schedules will be coordinated in advance.

Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis starting March 24, 2025 until community liaison positions are filled. The proposed start date is May 2025.
